Event Description: |
Portfolio Manager Axel Merk will discuss his outlook for the U.S. economy and the dollar from an international perspective. He accurately predicted the credit crisis, warning that risk was not adequately priced into markets, and that a surge in volatility would put an end to the credit bubble. His presentation will address important issues, such as whether an economic recovery is sustainable given a backdrop of rising inflationary pressures.
Considered an expert on currencies, Mr. Merk has cautioned that currencies are at risk of losing their traditional function as a store of value; the implications of such an environment are far-reaching. Mr. Merk believes there may be no such thing as a safe asset anymore and even cash may require a diversified approach.
Mr. Merk will focus on global dynamics and the potential consequences of present market interventions. He will give his outlook on which regions and currencies may be best placed going forward.
Axel Merk is President and Chief Investment Officer of Merk Investments, a Palo Alto-based mutual fund management company. Mr. Merk is a pioneer in the use of strategic currency investing to seek diversification. Mr. Merk will provide insights on macro trends, hard money, international investing, and building sustainable wealth. He is a sought after speaker and author, as well as a regular guest and contributor to the business media.
Mr. Merk's book (due out October, 2009) Sustainable Wealth: Achieve Financial Security in a World of Debt and Consumption is about understanding how the greater economic universe works, how that may affect your finances, and how to manage those finances to seek financial stability. Following his presentation, Mr. Merk will autograph copies of his book, which will be available for purchase at the event. Please visit www.sustainablewealth.org for more information.
Axel Merk holds a B.A. in Economics (magna cum laude) and a M.Sc. in Computer Science from Brown University. |
