Event Description:
CFASF and TCFA (The Chinese Finance Association) proudly present a speaker's event followed by a cocktail reception at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport. In light of the growing impact of China in the world economy, and a rapidly changing global investment landscape, we have invited two distinguished panels of speakers to discuss their views on investing in China from different perspectives, and their projection of the trend and dynamics of the global markets.

Panelists:
James Claus is the CEO and Managing Partner of GMN Capital L.P. Mr. Claus is responsible for directing all investment activities within the firm. Mr. Claus plays a significant role in researching and developing new enhancements to the current models and expansions of the investment strategy. Previously, Mr. Claus was a Partner and the Head of Global Market Neutral Strategies at GSA Capital in London. In addition, Mr. Claus worked in the Global Statistical Arbitrage group at Deutsche Bank, where he was responsible for research and portfolio management for all longer term strategies. Prior to joining Deutsche Bank, from May 2000 to September 2004, Mr. Claus was a senior researcher at Barclays Global Investors. In addition to his primary responsibilities in global equities, he worked directly with every active investment group including fixed income and asset allocation. Mr. Claus holds a Ph.D. in Accounting from Columbia University where he studied under Trevor Harris. His award-winning research has been presented at several conferences and published in The Journal of Finance.

GMN Capital L.P. is a San Francisco based asset management firm. GMN currently manages 1.2 billion dollars in global equity investment for a wide array of institutional clients and other clients. It employs a collection of equity market neutral strategies that use quantitative portfolio management techniques and systematic manager input.

Thomas French

Dr. Priscilla M. Lu is Chairman and CEO of ViDeOnline, a company she founded in 2004, providing secured network to deliver digital media over broadband in Asia. She is viewed as an international expert in telecommunications and data networking. She led many of the early efforts in technology innovation in the GSM IP-based cellular network area. She is also an advisor to Mayfield in China Strategy. Prior to this she founded interWAVE Communications; a Mayfield and Morgan Stanley Venture funded company. She was Chairman and CEO for almost ten years and took the company public on NASDAQ in January 2000. interWAVE designed and manufactured end to end GSM and CDMA cellular network equipment with embedded soft switches in the radio base stations. interWAVE has over 160 networks in Middle East, Africa, Europe, Latin America, China and South East Asia. Prior to founding interWAVE, Dr. Lu spent 16 years at AT&T Bell Laboratories where she led efforts in switching, sub-micron CMOS and VLSI chip technologies, as well as broadband networking. Dr. Lu holds a B.S. and M.S. in Computer Science and Mathematics from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and graduated with honors for her Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Northwestern University (Bell Labs Doctorate Scholarship Program). Dr. Lu holds over 40 patents in the area of telecommunications and networking. She is currently on the Board of several start-up companies and on the Advisory Council for NorthWestern University's School of Engineering.

Ms. Joan Zheng is a Managing Director and Head of China Research and Strategy with Merrill Lynch. She oversees China research teams based in both Shanghai and Hong Kong. Ms. Zheng joined Merrill Lynch in 2004 from JP Morgan, where she was the Chief Economist for Greater China. She also worked as an economist at Baring Securities, and an economics associate lecturer at the Australian National University. Ms. Zheng began her career at the People's Bank of China in Beijing in 1989. Ms. Zheng holds a Master's and Graduate Diploma with Distinction in Economics of Development from the Australian National University, a Master's degree from the Graduate School of the People's Bank of China in Beijing and a Bachelor's degree from Hangzhou University.
